There are different types of players in the game of poker, each with its own weaknesses and strengths.  They key here is to use the appropriate type of strategy to the certain type of opponents you’re facing.  Your opponents by then will try to counter your attempts to gain the upper hand.  It’s all just a matter of choosing the right strategy to begin with.  There are two key areas that are categorized in terms of strategy.  It is either you’re loose or tight, and aggressive and passive.

Overall, it has been said that the best and the most versatile type of strategy to use is the tight-aggressive approach.  Being the tight aggressive player basically means that you won’t waste your chips on a dull hand when you get the chance of getting them.  The tight-aggressive player is wise enough to determine whether his hand is to be played or not, and realizes certain tight spots wherein he needs to withdraw.  He is able to sense that there is less of a chance that he will be able to form a good five-card combination and folds to lessen the damage to be dealt.

Playing Good Hands

To be a tight-aggressive player basically means that you can distinguish good hand cards from the bad.  The tight-aggressive player then plays his card when he sees that he has a good chance of winning.  He does not rely on luck alone; he relies on a rational manner.  He studies all possibilities of the game and explores the possibility of his opponents’ cards.  Instances such as these will grant the player the ability to bluff correctly in the right time, when he is on the tight spot.  His opponents by then won’t notice the bluff and won’t be aggressive enough to face the hand of the tight-aggressive player.

If the tight-aggressive player keeps on making rational decisions, he will most probably win the game.
